The Sommerer Reunion is held every year on the 4th of July weekend at Heit’s Point on the Lake of the Ozarks. There is a lot of fun to be had with a large family. Last night I finally fulfilled my dad’s wish to be able to see my photos by setting up a Shutterfly site where the pictures could be viewed and printed. Go ahead and take a look!

As some one may have noticed, my site was out of commission for a couple of days. Something about the comments section crashing. Fortunately, my IT guy is just aweful and was able to fix it right away. Well, right away, after I called him to tell him it was having difficulty. Here’s a popsicle to you!
I got a nice phone call at work this afternoon. It appears that my oldest child tried to take on a car with her my bike! She was riding from school back to the house to get a change of clothes to go to a volleyball game. She was on a blacktop road that doesn’t have shoulders and a car came up behind her. Instead of just pulling off in the grass, she tried to cross the road to the other side so the car could use the lane. Unfortuately, the car was already passing her and she ran into it. She is ok for the most part, she got a scrape on her leg and a bruise on her hand, but nothing was broken and she luckily did not hit her head even thought the bike flipped
When the guy she hit stopped, she made him take her and her bike home (about 1/2 a mile) wait for her to pick up a change of cloths and take her back to her highschool. Luckilly he was a pretty nice guy and not a crazy mass murderer! Anyway, when she got to school she still wanted to go to the game.
Needless to say, we went to the nearby clinic and had her hand x-rayed. Nothing broken, just bruised, but that means no volleyball for 7-10 days. I guess she was really lucky not to have broken her neck.
And of course, tonight was parents night at Declan’s school and the first Booster meeting for her highschool, so it was a jam packed night to begin with!
While the kids were at Grandma’s this summer we got to take a little adult vacation. Really just a one day jaunt up to Bandera (Cowboy Capital of Texas). We did some hiking at the state nature preserve, then went for a horseback ride at a local dude ranch. Then we tooled around the little town for a bit and ate dinner.
We hiked up to the top of a mesa, supprisingly mesa’s are not bigger in Texas!
The Flying R Ranch, which was one of many, many dude ranches in the area. We got there early, so we had a picnic lunch on the grounds and sat in the rocking chairs on the front porch.
This ride was definately nothing like the rides I took as a kid. Of course having a saddle can make a big difference.
Having a horse that is awake also makes a difference on the ride. This was Paul’s horse, it was sleeping (with him on it) before we made it leave the corral.
